About Me
I am an Editor and Education Writer. Previously, I worked as a Teaching Assistant. During that time, I created course content for undergraduate university courses. This involved working around several conflicting schedules to coordinate group work, using online tools such as Google Docs and Drop Box, creating PowerPoint presentations, and writing lecture materials. Lectures focused on topics such as the firebombing of Dresden from the perspective of Slaughter House Five, and finding videos of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream to show students how the material was meant to be viewed.
As an editor, I work primarily with Microsoft Word's Track Changes system. I have some experience working with pdfs, but I find that Track Changes allows both the editor and author more control. With Track Changes the writer can see each of the edits and reject or accept them individually. The program also allows me to add comments to help improve the structure, flow, and voice of the writing. I always offer a free re-edit on each project.
I have seven years’ experience writing and editing at an advanced level. During my university career, I wrote a number of publications including: an 18th Century newspaper, a Renaissance cookbook, several short children’s stories, and innumerable essays. Each of these projects included research into audience interest, fact checking, following citation guidelines, and using primary source material. They left me with an understanding of MLA, APA, AJA, and CMS styles as well as an appreciation for the writing process. I understand that a book is like a child and will treat it accordingly.
During my undergraduate career, I worked as a peer mentor. This experience honed my editing skills as I helped my fellow students succeed. I went on in my Master's to peer edit through a thesis writing group, and for The Disestablishmentarian Journal.
I obtained my M.A. in English Literature (Public Texts) from Trent University last September. During my M.A., my supervisor was an editor and was happy to tutor me in editing practices.
